Feeling Anxious Or Afraid? Seeking Comfort In God Can Help Ease Your Mind

Posted on

Feeling anxious and afraid is more common than ever in a world where things seem to be spiraling out of control. Fear and anxiety are normal reactions when you are faced with uncertainties or when coping with the loss of a person, relationship, or job. Seeking comfort in God is one coping mechanism that can potentially help you begin to see things from a different perspective.

God does not want you to worry or fear

Multiple times throughout the Bible, which is God's inspired word, God tells His people not to worry. The fact it is mentioned so many times throughout scripture lets you know it was something important that God wanted His people to know.

One of the favorite verses many people find comfort in is 2 Timothy 1:7, which states that God did not give you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and of a sound mind.

God does not want you to feel alone

God gives His people several verses that let them know they are never alone. In Joshua 1: 9, God commands His people to be strong and courageous, for He is with them no matter where they go. While the world may be falling apart, you can rest assured He is right by your side to help you walk through the tough times.

God reminds His people in John 14:18 that He will not leave them as orphans but will come to them. Zephaniah 3: 16 shows a loving God telling His people He is in their midst, will save them, and rejoices over them with singing.

God gives you peace through his word

When you are feeling unsettled, stressed out, or overwhelmed, God's word provides reassurance that He is a God of peace. He desires for his people to feel peace and not anxiety.

Isaiah 26:3 shows God telling his people he will keep them in perfect peace when their mind is fixed on him. John 14:27 is a calming verse that tells you not to let your heart be troubled or afraid because God gives you peace.

From natural disasters to a global pandemic, there is never any shortage of events to stoke fear and anxiety in life. While you do not always have control over the events that trigger anxiety, learning healthy ways to cope with anxious events can help. Seeking comfort in God is one way to ease stress and help you learn to accept and manage anxious feelings.
